Types of computer network
There are three types of computer network
- Local area network(LAN)
- Metropolitan area network(MAN)
- Wide area Network (WAN)
Local area network(LAN)
It connect computer and devices in limited geographical area such as home, school, and laboratory. In LAN computer share printer, storage devices and different program or software with each other. Its speed range from 10mbps to 1GB.
Wireless LAN(WLAN)
WLAN allow user to move around to still connected with network. In this type of network connected devices without wire. It has a limit range of connectivity 50 to 300 feet.
Wi-fi is example of WLAN.
Metropolitan area network(MAN)
It cover large city. It connect two or more LANs. A metropolitan is design to share resources of different LANs in a city. A MAN uses different type of transmission (wire or wireless) and hardware for communication.
Cable TV is the best example of MAN.
Wide area network(WAN)
It connect large geographical area such as a country or around the world. WAN is normally connect multiple LANs and MANs at different location. A WAN uses different type of transmission (wire or wireless) and hardware for communication. WAN are used in large business networks.
Internet is the best example of WAN.
